Members of Teakettle and other Disciples Ministry churches were invited today to Esperanza Church's Harvest Celebration.  The church is pastored by Alvin Gentle, Jr., whose older brother Amos delivered the sermon. Pastor Amos Gentle, who fell into crime as a young man and was led to Christ in prison, preached on getting right with God before it is too late.  To get a glimpse of the festivities, see our Photos page.

                      Billie White
Today, on Belize's Pan-American Day holiday, about 40 people used their time off from work and school to repair the new church at Billie White.  Using machetes, volunteers cut, gathered and burned the tall grass and weeds that threatened to overtake the church's double lot. Workers stayed from morning until late afternoon, and enjoyed a lunch of chicken and rice provided by several women from Central Farm Church.  The grass is now almost cleared, and the church walls are complete from floor to ceiling.  For more information and to see pictures from the build, please visit our Construction Projects page and Photos page.

With a fiery sermon in which he called workers to reap souls before it is too late, guest Pastor Amos Gentle led Santa Elena in the first Harvest celebration of the season.  42 members of Santa Elena, including Santa Elena Pastor Mark Armstrong, marched with cakes and fruit in a display of thanksgiving and devotion to God.  After the service, church members sold cakes, fruit, nachos and flowers to raise money for the church.  More pictures from Santa Elena's festival will be available for a limited time in Photos.

In lieu of a service, members of Teakettle English Church gathered to watch "Fireproof," a movie about faith in Christ and the struggles of marriage.  The movie stars Kirk Cameron as Caleb Holt, a firefighter whose marriage is crumbling because he and his wife barely communicate and have lost the will to love each other. At the urging of his Christian father, Caleb sets out on a 40-day quest to save his marriage, using the book "The Love Dare" as a guide. He ends up learning how to truly love his wife, after he is saved by the love of Christ.  "Fireproof" has been called the #1 inspirational movie in America.

Tonight, Johnny and Jill Chiang opened their home to members of Bethel Disciples for their annual Moon Festival party. About 30 people came to eat food from Taiwan, Korea and India with the Chiangs and enjoy their warmth and hospitality.  The festival was originally celebrated in worship of the moon or moon goddess, but now we can use this time to worship Christ in fellowship and celebrate our unique cultures.

                      Inside Billie White Church
Yesterday  Bro. Han, Sis. Lee and Pastor Carlos visited the town of Billie White, where Bro. Han has just bought this abandoned church.  Billie White is a very rural community, with about 50 families and lots of children.  The loudest noises in town come from farm animals, and there are few opportunities to go  to a church service.  The building needs some construction, the water pump doesn't work and there's a broken fridge in the yard, but with prayer and patience, people will hear God's praises in Billie White.

On Friday in the sanctuary at Prayer Mountain, Keron Terrence Herbert and Idolly Lynette Gongora were married by Pastor Han.  They had been engaged for two years and had known each other for nine.  The chapel was filled to capacity for their wedding.  The couple ask for continued blessings from God, and they pray that their marriage will be a holy example of love and commitment.

Last night, the couple celebrated with a reception at their home church, Unitedville. Members from Teakettle Church and Valley Community Church also came to celebrate.

The church also celebrated the one-year anniversary of youth leader James Jones and his wife Gina.  Their prayer is for continued communication in their marriage.
"The more we're together, the more we understand about each other," James said.

Last night family and friends gathered at the home of Dianny Shol to eat, offer encouragement and reminisce about her husband, Sebastian Shol.  Bro Shol was recently killed by a lightning strike as he was walking at night with his machete--he was found lying face-down in the grass the next morning.  It was an incredible shock to his family and the entire community.  Bro Shol's kindness was far-reaching, and he is missed by everyone.
Church members remember Bro. Shol as a loving father and leader in the church.  Dianny says her husband would usually wake up during the night at least once to check on his children, and his nephew Levi says that just before his death, Bro. Shol gave a passionate sermon to the church youth.  As if in God's preparation of what would happen, he told them to know Jesus today, because tomorrow may not come.
