Disciples Ministries

Disciples Ministries began in 1985, when Lee Mi Hwa received a simple yet profound call from God: Go to Belize.  Several years later, 18-year-old Lim Han joined his former Bible teacher in her ministry.  They had support from their church in Korea, and Lim Han intended to stay only for a short time.  Soon, he discovered Belize would be both his new home and his lifelong mission.  In September,1989, "The Disciples Ministry" officially registered  as a non-profit organization under Chapter 206 of the laws of BELIZE.

In 1993,Sadly  the church in Korea couldn't continue their support since Senior Pastor went with the Lord and the church were start facing enormous challenges and changes.  After years of poverty and disappointment, Lim Han contemplated moving the U.S.--where he had never even visited--to earn enough money to keep the ministry afloat.  Before he could leave, however, he met Dr. Peter Chung from Centerpoint Christian Fellowship, a new church near the University of Florida in Gainesville.  Through that chance meeting, Brother Han and Sister Lee contacted other churches in Los Angeles, Baltimore and Dallas, and slowly built a foundation of support.

Since then, Disciples Ministries has been funded entirely on faith, with no major support or guarantee of continual funds from any one church.  The ministry encompasses churches throughout the Cayo District and the Staan Creek Districtict heavily involved in church planting and local discipleship.  The ministry also welcomes several short-term mission and church groups throughout the year from the U.S., Korea and Belize.  Specific ministries within Disciples Ministries are explained in better detail through their separate links.

At God's calling, Sister Lee Mi Hwa (ex - OMer from Doulos) came to Belize when she was about 40 years old.  She is the main leader at Unitedville Church, although she regularly ministers to women at several churches.  She is known as a prayer warrior, and her main hobby is painting and maintaining the gardens at Prayer Mountain. For over 25 years she has accumulated an extensive collection of plants and flowers--all of which have been dona
ted.  Her gardens, she says, are a gift from God.  While most of her flowers are planted at Prayer Mountain, she also sells some plants to raise money for churches and church projects.
